About  - Creative Hawke's Bay

Creative Hawke's Bay is dedicated to supporting and developing the professional creative sector.

A registered charitable trust, Creative Hawke's Bay focuses on activities that can stimulate and encourage the creative sector.

With a change in funding in 2011, we devolved three activities we had been running: the Invitational Exhibition at HCAG (now titled EAST), the Art Guide (now produced by Napier & Hastings Community Arts Councils), and what was the Hawke’s Bay Museum & Art Gallery (now MTG) has taken over the lecture series which it will begin presenting again in 2013.

In early 2012, Creative Hawke’s Bay began presenting Pecha Kucha Nights initially in the Clive Hall, and more latterly at the Cabana in Napier.

Trustees (each is voluntary) are currently working toward a get-together early in 2013 of people active in the sector to discuss the ‘state of the arts’ in the region, and look at ways forward.  2013 is local government election year, something trustees are quietly aware of, especially as funding for the arts in Hawke's Bay appears to have reduced over the past year.

While Creative Hastings and Creative Napier perform specific roles within their respective local authority areas, Creative Hawke’s Bay exists to address the regional issues. It deals with the professional end of the arts sector as opposed to the community arts end, and functions as a strategist in support of the professional development of the sector.
